Designing Global ADR Processes for the Future: 5G and the Internet of Things

Presented by JAMS

About the Event

The global internet of things (IoT) industry is expected be worth up to $6.2 trillion (McKinsey, 2013), with further economic benefits of $11.2 trillion (McKinsey, 2018) by 2025. The defining feature of IoT is the interoperability of devices, (previously dumb) objects, cars and infrastructure over 5G. Adaptation to this will require a vast amount of cross-licensing of patent portfolios between global patent holders. Designing an effective cross-border dispute resolution system to meet the needs of this developing industry is essential.

Join an esteemed panel of JAMS neutrals and outside speakers who have experience working with complex intellectual property and technology disputes to discuss best practices when designing these systems, including:

  • Making standard essential patents available to competitors
  • What new dispute resolution options are available given that California SB 766 will open the state as a seat for International Arbitrations?
  • What should you consider when selecting ADR rules?

This complimentary event is happening in conjunction with the Weinstein JAMS International Fellows Program. The Fellowship Program, inaugurated in 2008, provides opportunities for qualified individuals from outside the United States to study dispute resolution processes and practices in the U.S. to assist them in their efforts to advance the resolution of disputes in their home countries. The fellows will be attending the program and reception and we look forward to hearing from them on this topic and the future of ADR around the world.
