Diversity and the Power of Understanding

It is our pleasure to invite you to a CLE and reception in honor of the American Bar Association’s designated Mediation Week. The theme for this year is Mediation, Civility & the Power of Understanding and in the spirit what this stands for, we have brought together a panel of legal professionals to discuss diversity and inclusion in today’s legal landscape.

This will be the 7th consecutive year that JAMS has partnered with the Atlanta Bar Association’s Women in the Profession Section in honor of Mediation Week to discuss the legal industry’s most pressing issues. This year’s program will address the deficit in diversity and inclusion in the industry and how this informs mediation outcomes. Attendees will get perspectives from ADR executives, in-house and outside counsel on how to move the needle towards a more inclusive, civil and competent legal industry.

Family Law Mediation with High Conflict Personalities

As you know, “difficult personalities” can be a major obstacle to settlement in matrimonial cases. An attorney’s ability to “get a read” on a client’s emotions is an important part of family law advocacy. It’s also crucial to our ability to settle these cases.

We’ve invited Dr. Sarah V. Puccia, MPH, PsyD, to help us get a handle on the client mind. Together with Hon. Michele F. Lowrance (Ret.), we’ll turn these insights into effective tools for client advocacy, and litigation and settlement strategy.

Efficiently Resolving Chinese Business Disputes: ADR for Inbound and Outbound Investment

You and your colleagues are invited to take part in a unique Mediation Week event presented by JAMS and the Shanghai Commercial Mediation Center (SCMC) at Fordham University School of Law in New York.

We are honored to be hosting well known Chinese judicial reformers, Chinese Supreme Court Justice Hu Shihao and Shanghai People’s High Court Justice Yin Yonglei. Together with SCMC President Zhang Wei, this group will discuss the ongoing development of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) services in China as well as recent judicial reforms focused on improving dispute resolution for local and international businesses in China.

China is the largest investor in the developing world. The seminar will also discuss how Chinese companies investing around the world can leverage ADR services to avoid local courts and resolve disputes quickly, efficiently, and—most importantly—in a way that maintains strong business relationships.

This interactive seminar is a great opportunity to meet these Chinese Justices and discuss legal strategies that help build foreign direct investment. It is also an ideal occasion to meet other prominent international attorneys as well as JAMS and SCMC neutrals. As the newest member of JAMS International, the SCMC's team of mediators offers in-depth knowledge of commercial and legal issues facing inbound and outbound foreign investment in China.
