JAMS Mediator donates $1 Million to the JAMS Foundation to help support upcoming projects

JAMS Foundation News

IRVINE, CA — The non-profit JAMS Foundation announced today that JAMS Mediator Hon. Daniel Weinstein (Ret.) will donate $1 million to the organization over a four-year period beginning in 2007. The Foundation is the largest private provider of exclusively alternative dispute resolution (ADR) related grants in the world, having provided more than $1.2 million in grant funding since its inception in 2002. This is the largest personal ADR related gift in recent years and is the first donation to the Foundation of its kind.

This donation will fund major non-profit conflict resolution projects, both domestically and overseas.

"I am pleased to contribute to the Foundation’s worthwhile mission, and I am excited about the opportunity to make pioneering conflict resolution projects a reality. This significant gift will allow the JAMS Foundation to be more proactive and award larger grants with more impact in preventing and resolving disputes" said Hon. Daniel Weinstein (Ret.), JAMS Neutral and Mediator.

"We are enormously grateful to Judge Weinstein for his commitment to dispute resolution worldwide and for his generosity. His gift serves as an inspirational model for others within JAMS to make the Foundation their charitable priority" said Jay Folberg, Executive Director of the JAMS Foundation.

The $1 million donation will be disbursed to the Foundation in $250,000 increments over a four-year period. The money will be used fully to fund grants and will not be used as an endowment. During these four years, Judge Weinstein, who was instrumental in creating the JAMS Foundation, will continue to serve on the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

"Judge Weinstein’s donation will enhance the standing of the Foundation by elevating and broadening the overall impact of its work. This is another example of JAMS neutrals leading the ADR community into new territory" said Steve Price, JAMS president and CEO.

The donation is in keeping with the Judge’s active philanthropic life, which in the past has included serving as: Chairman of the Northern California CORO Foundation; Chairman of the Northern California Special Olympics; and sponsor of The Midnight Basketball League.

The focus of Judge Weinstein’s current philanthropic efforts is helping disadvantaged youth. He is President of 7 Tepees Youth Program, an organization he co-founded. In addition, Judge Weinstein is Founder of the Danny Weinstein Youth Foundation, which provides financial resources to disadvantaged youth in the form of annual grants.
