Hon. Terry B. Friedman (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Southern California

Santa Monica, CA – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services in the United States, today announced the addition of Hon. Terry B. Friedman (Ret.) to its panel. Based in JAMS Santa Monica Resolution Center, Judge Friedman will focus on resolving a broad range of disputes including complex business commercial, construction, employment, insurance, personal injury, professional liability, public policy, and real property disputes.

Judge Friedman joins JAMS following a 15-year tenure with the Los Angeles Superior Court. A former state assemblyman and public-interest attorney, he was elected to the bench in 1994, where he successfully conducted settlement conferences, trials, motions, and various other hearings.

Judge Friedman served on the Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles since 1995. Previously, he served as a member of the California State Assembly from 1986-1994 and as the Executive Director of Bet Tzedek from 1978 -1986. He began his legal career as a staff legal attorney with Western Center on Law and Poverty in 1976.

Judge Friedman holds many honors including public service awards from the Western Center on Law and Poverty and from UCLA Alumni Association. His professional contributions are extensive, including his service on the Judicial Council of California since 2005, and his memberships on the California Bench-Bar Coalition since 2004, and on the Right to Counsel Committee, California Access to Justice Commission of the State Bar of California since 2004. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of Association of Business Trial Lawyers from 2005-2008; and on the faculty of the California Center for Judicial Education and Research (CJER) from 1997-2001. He also served on the Alternative Dispute Resolution Executive Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association in 1996.

Judge Friedman has served as an adjunct professor for a number of prestigious law schools including his current role at Pepperdine University School of Law, and previous positions with Loyola Law School, USC Law School, and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) School of Law. He earned his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law, University of California Berkeley in 1976. He earned his B.A. with honors from UCLA in 1971.
