Respected Entertainment and Employment Neutral Joel M. Grossman Joins JAMS in Santa Monica

Santa Monica, CA – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services in the United States today announced the addition to its panel of Joel M. Grossman, who will be based in the JAMS Santa Monica Resolution Center. Mr. Grossman will mediate and arbitrate a broad range of complex disputes with a particular focus on entertainment, employment, intellectual property, and business commercial matters. He has been exclusively devoted to mediation and arbitration since 2004, following his 25-year legal career as a litigator, labor negotiator, and in-house counsel overseeing complex entertainment disputes.

Prior to joining JAMS, Mr. Grossman was a full-time neutral with ADR Services. He has been named to the Daily Journal’s list of the top neutrals in California for three consecutive years. In addition, The Hollywood Reporter has named him as an entertainment law “Power Mediator,” and he has been named a Super Lawyer in the area of Alternative Dispute Resolution since 2007.

Mr. Grossman served for 15 years as Senior Vice President, Head of Labor and Litigation Divisions, for Sony Pictures Entertainment from 1989 to 2003. He was previously a Partner with Selvin and Weiner from 1985 to 1989, where he represented, among other clients the Writers Guild of America in significant labor and employment matters. He began his legal career as an Associate with O’Melveny & Myers in 1980 following a clerkship for the Hon. Eugene A. Wright, 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Mr. Grossman is a Member of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations Labor and Employment Law Executive Committee, and an Associate Member of the California Employment Lawyers Association (CELA). An accomplished writer, he has contributed on the topic of Alternative Dispute Resolution to the California Labor and Employment Law Review, published by the State Bar of California Labor and Employment Law Section; and co-authored Modern Law of Employment Contracts, a leading treatise on the law of wrongful termination and other aspects of employment law.

He earned his J.D. from UCLA School of Law in 1979, Order of the Coif. He earned his M.A from the University of California Santa Barbara in 1976 and his B.A. with honors from the University of Pennsylvania in 1972.
