New Panelist Announcement
Washington, D.C. – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. Ricardo M. Urbina (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Urbina will be based in the JAMS Washington, D.C. Resolution Center and will be the 38th federal judge to join JAMS. The JAMS Federal Panel of retired judges possess an invaluable body of legal knowledge and skill as mediators, arbitrators and special masters in a variety of Federal law matters. Judge Urbina will serve as an arbitrator, mediator and special master in a variety of disputes including Business/Commercial, Construction, Employment, Government/Public Agency, Insurance, Intellectual Property and Professional Liability.

Judge Urbina joins JAMS after more than 30 years of service on the District of Columbia federal and superior courts. In April 1981, Judge Urbina became the first Latino ever appointed to the bench in Washington, D.C. Most recently, he served for 18 years as a U.S. District Court Judge for the District of Columbia and issued more than 1,000 memorandum opinions. He garnered distinction for his handling of the complex civil calendar, one of court’s most demanding assignments.

“Judge Urbina has an excellent reputation and is well-known for being both compassionate and fair,” said Chris Poole, JAMS president and CEO. “We know how much parties on both sides respect him and that he will make a positive contribution through his ADR work at JAMS.”

“It’s been an honor serving on the bench for so many years and I look forward to starting the next chapter in my professional life,” said Judge Urbina. “JAMS is the gold standard in the ADR community. I’m thrilled to join such a talented panel and work with the skilled and efficient case managers.”

Judge Urbina graduated with his B.A., with honors, from Georgetown University and earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He was awarded the Lifetime Leadership Award from the Hispanic National Bar Foundation in 2011 and also received the Honorable William J.
