Hon. William J. Furber (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Pennsylvania

Former judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County serves as a mediator, arbitrator, and special master

New Panelist Announcement

PHILADELPHIA – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Hon. William J. Furber (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Furber will be based in the JAMS Philadelphia Resolution Center and will serve as a mediator, arbitrator and special master in a variety of disputes including Business/Commercial, Family Law, Personal Injury/Torts and Professional Liability.

Prior to joining JAMS, Judge Furber served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Montgomery County for 24 years, including a four-year term as President Judge from 2012 until 2016. During his tenure on the bench he sat in the Civil, Family and Criminal Divisions of the Court of Common Pleas, presiding over 1,000 cases. In 2008, he was appointed to the Judicial Ethics Committee of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges, where he served through 2016.

Before his appointment, Judge Furber established his reputation as a litigator in a prominent Montgomery County law firm and as a solo practitioner. His broad litigation practice included trying personal injury, products liability, professional liability, and business/commercial cases.  He also served as the solicitor to two zoning hearing boards. While practicing, he developed an extensive arbitration caseload, serving as a neutral arbitrator in uninsured and underinsured motor vehicle cases.

Judge Furber is known for his ability to listen, ask questions and identify creative solutions. His experience as a judge has shaped his ability to work with parties and counsel in all kinds of disputes. He will make a great addition to our panel and we are thrilled to have him join us.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

During my time on the bench, I made a point to understand the strengths and weaknesses in every case I managed. I look forward to taking the same approach with my practice at JAMS and working alongside the talented panelists in Pennsylvania.

-Hon. William J. Furber (Ret.), JAMS Mediator, Arbitrator, and Special Master

Judge Furber received his B.S. with honors from University of Maryland and his J.D. from Temple University School of Law.
