JAMS Foundation Receives John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver Award from the ABA

JAMS Foundation News Awards

SAN FRANCISCO – The JAMS Foundation has been named as the institutional recipient of the 2017 John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver Award. The award was presented Friday as part of the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Awards reception in San Francisco.

The John W. Cooley Lawyer as Problem Solver Award recognizes individuals and organizations that engage their problem-solving skills to produce creative solutions. The award is given to an individual member of the legal profession and/or institution who has demonstrated extraordinary skill in promoting the lawyer as problem-solver or resolving individual, institutional, community, state, national or international problems.

The JAMS Foundation is honored to receive this award. The Foundation has tried very hard to direct its resources where they are most needed and can have the greatest impact.  The ABA’s recognition of our efforts is incredibly gratifying.

- David Brandon, Managing Director of the JAMS Foundation

The JAMS Foundation was created to provide support to the New York Bar Association in offering pro bono mediation and related services for 9/11 victims and their families. Since 2002, the Foundation has made more than 200 grants totaling more than $6 million to more than 100 nonprofit organizations throughout the world.

The ABA said that “the JAMS Foundation has made a significant impact and positively influenced the development of dispute resolution for the public good.”

The JAMS foundation is a nonprofit organization whose current funding priorities include community mediation, student and youth initiatives, police-community relations and the Weinstein JAMS International Fellowship Program.
