Events Panelist News

IRVINE, Calif. – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services worldwide, is pleased to be a sponsor of the 23rd Annual Sonenshine Pro Bono Reception. The event, which takes place this evening at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, Calif., focuses on connecting new lawyers in Orange County with 30 local pro bono, social services and arts and culture organizations to help them incorporate charitable opportunities into their practice.

The reception was conceived by JAMS neutral Hon. Sheila Prell Sonenshine (Ret.) in 1994 and has helped create numerous success stories over the years by expanding young attorneys’ involvement in pro bono activities and providing individuals with opportunities in the legal profession.

This year, JAMS neutral Hon. Carlos R. Moreno (Ret.) will serve as the keynote speaker. Justice Moreno joined JAMS after a distinguished 25-year career on the judiciary, including 10 years on the California Supreme Court, where he authored over 140 majority opinions on a wide range of precedent-setting cases, including significant opinions implicating LGBT rights, arbitration and insurance policy coverage.

We are honored to be a part of this important event that helps promote pro bono work and volunteering opportunities among young lawyers in Orange County.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Justice Sonenshine was appointed to the Superior Court of Orange County in 1981 and in 1982 was elevated to the California Court of Appeal, where she served until 1999. She is now a mediator and arbitrator with JAMS in Orange County. She will be a featured speaker at the reception, alongside Hon. Andrew Guilford of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

The event is sponsored by an Executive Committee of 15 law firms, which alternate hosting responsibilities for the event each year. This year’s host is O’Melveny & Myers LLP.
