Experienced lawyer joins JAMS as an arbitrator and mediator

New Panelist Announcement

Minneapolis – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution services worldwide, is pleased to welcome Lawrence Zelle, Esq., to its panel. Mr. Zelle joins JAMS with over 50 years of experience as a lawyer, arbitrator, mediator, negotiator and settlement broker. He has served as lead or co-lead counsel in over 300 cases that were tried to completion, arbitrated or settled through mediation or negotiation. Based in the Minneapolis Resolution Center, Mr. Zelle will provide his arbitration and mediation expertise in a variety of practice areas including, business/commercial, insurance/reinsurance, intellectual property, personal injury/torts and professional liability. 

Mr. Zelle is known for his in-depth insurance expertise, as well as for successfully resolving complex disputes both nationally and internationally. We look forward to having him bring his valuable knowledge and perspective to the JAMS panel.

Throughout his career, Mr. Zelle has represented insurers, reinsurers, captives, policyholders, brokers and management companies across a broad cross-section of contracts including; property, casualty, fidelity, treaty or facultative reinsurance, marine, accident and health, specialty lines, and environmental. He has experience in disputes involving a wide array of common insurance issues such as; coverage, loss measurement, bad faith, rescission, number of occurrences, interpretation of contract wordings, concurrent causation, custom and practice, notice, primary/excess, allocation, special limits, and material misrepresentation.

I’ve enjoyed the work I’ve done for the past five decades and have built a strong foundation as a mediator and arbitrator. I am ready for this next step in my career and am looking forward to helping parties achieve resolution alongside the talented panel of neutrals at JAMS.

Mr. Zelle also served as a consultant to risk managers, underwriters and brokers in the drafting of wordings. He has been invited to conduct training workshops for claims and underwriting departments at major insurance companies. In addition, he has presented papers and participated on numerous panels dealing with subjects of interest to various legal and industry groups associated with the world of insurance.

Mr. Zelle received his B.A. from the University of Minnesota and earned his J.D. from the University of Minnesota School of Law.
