Experienced arbitrator joins JAMS as an arbitrator, special master and mediator

New Panelist Announcement

NEW YORK – JAMS, the largest private provider of mediation and arbitration services worldwide, today announced the addition of Thomas L. Creel, Esq. to its panel in New York. Mr. Creel will serve as an arbitrator, special master and mediator with a specialty in intellectual property and technology disputes.

Mr. Creel previously served as the head of the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Area as a partner at Goodwin Procter LLP. His experience as an arbitrator includes multiple appointments during his law firm practice. In 2008, Mr. Creel established an independent arbitration practice, where he continued to receive complex IP arbitration appointments from the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), American Arbitration Association (AAA)/International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), Center for Public Resources (CPR) and other domestic and international arbitral institutions. With more than 30 years of experience with intellectual property and technology arbitration, Mr. Creel is widely recognized for his expertise in resolving complex patent disputes and has handled scores of proceedings concerning a broad range of technologies, including biotechnology, computer technology, medical devices, electronics and chemistry.

Mr. Creel has litigated in courts throughout the United States and before the International Trade Commission. In addition to his extensive court career, he is an acclaimed author having written the treatise “Patent Claim Construction and Markman Hearings,” a seminal text in the arena of patent litigation that was first published in 2013 by the Practising Law Institute (PLI) and is updated yearly by Mr. Creel. He also co-taught the patent and trade secret course at Columbia Law School for nearly 20 years.

Tom is known for his expertise in IP and technology arbitration. We know he will make a great addition to the panel and are pleased to have him join JAMS.

Mr. Creel received his B.S. from the University of Kansas and earned his LL.B. from the University of Michigan Law School.  He is a member of the bars of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, New York, Michigan, various federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court.
