Philadelphia – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. Thomas I. Vanaskie (Ret.) to its panel. Judge Vanaskie joins JAMS after a distinguished 24-year career on the federal bench. Judge Vanaskie was sworn in as a circuit judge for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in 2010. He previously served more than 16 years as a district judge for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, including a seven-year term as chief judge.
Based in the Philadelphia Resolution Center, Judge Vanaskie will serve as a mediator, arbitrator and special master in an extensive variety of practice areas, such as antitrust/competition, business/commercial, civil rights, class action/mass tort, employment, federal law, insurance, intellectual property, personal injury, torts, real property, smart contracts/blockchain and telecommunications.
Judge Vanaskie brings a wealth of knowledge and wide variety of experience with him to JAMS but is particularly known for his expertise in technology and e-discovery. We are eager to see him build his practice as part of our panel.

Judge Vanaskie’s career has been deeply rooted in technology and data science, and he is a contributing member of the Sedona Conference Working Group 1 on Electronic Document Retention and Production and Working Group 11 on Data Security and Privacy Liability. He previously served on the Information Technology Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States, the policymaking body for U.S. courts. In 2005, Judge Vanaskie was appointed chair of the Judicial Conference Information Technology Committee by the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist.
Additionally, Judge Vanaskie was a member of the Third Circuit Judicial Council and served as co-chair of its Information Technology Committee. Since 2007, he has served as an adjunct professor of law at the Penn State and Dickinson School of Law, presenting a course on electronic evidence. In 2016, Judge Vanaskie was appointed by Chief Justice John Roberts to serve on the Judicial Conference Space and Facilities Committee.
As a person who loves to analyze data and find solutions to difficult problems, I felt it was the logical next step in my career to become a neutral at JAMS. My passion and expertise came together with the right opportunity, and I’m excited to explore this new chapter in my story.

Judge Vanaskie received his B.A., magna cum laude, from Lycoming College and earned his J.D., cum laude, from Dickinson School of Law.
