Resolving Business Disputes in Asia Pacific: Litigation? Mediation? Arbitration? "Friendly Communication"?
Presented by the ABA International Section, China Committee

Spotlight on JAMS Speaker:  Patrick Norton
Date | Time:  February 23, 2016 | 9:15 AM ET
Topic:  ADR in Asia

A careful look at unfolding trends in arbitration, mediation and litigation in China.

As international business transactions and commerce continue to grow, so do the number of related disputes. This panel will explore the approaches to resolving those disputes and what alternatives exist to traditional litigation, particularly as they relate to Asian business practices and legal structures. Arbitration has become a well-recognized alternative and the use of commercial mediation has increased dramatically in recent years. Collaboration and “friendly discussions” are also built into some commercial codes. This panel will look at all of these options, changing business environments, and the elements of culture that impact dispute resolution.

An international panel of experts representing China, European countries and the USA will discuss alternative dispute resolution for business centered in Asia and for Asian companies as they expand around the globe. The target audience that could benefit from this program would be all practicing attorneys, in-house counsel, trial attorneys, mediators, arbitrators, judges, advisers and senior executives involved in cross-border or international matters or business, particularly in Asia.
