Hon. John M. Mott (Ret.) Joins JAMS in Washington, D.C.

Former District of Columbia Superior Court judge joins JAMS as a mediator, arbitrator, special master, and neutral case evaluator

New Panelist Announcement

WASHINGTON – JAMS, the largest private provider of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) services, is pleased to announce the addition of Hon. John M. Mott (Ret.).  Judge Mott joins JAMS after more than 18 years of distinguished service as a judge for the District of Columbia Superior Court, including the last eight years presiding over trials and conducting judicial mediation in a wide array of complex civil disputes.

Based in the JAMS Washington, D.C., Resolution Center, Judge Mott will serve as a mediator, arbitrator, special master and neutral case evaluator in a wide variety of disputes, including business/commercial, construction, employment, insurance, personal injury, probate and family.

Judge Mott has established himself in the Washington, D.C., legal community as a fair and patient judge with the ability to facilitate the settlement of complex and difficult cases. He is an excellent addition to the JAMS panel, and we’re happy that he’s chosen to continue his career with us.

-Chris Poole, JAMS President and CEO

Judge Mott has successfully mediated dozens of settlements through the years, and his deep understanding of the legal process, legal issues and possible outcomes makes him an excellent neutral for mediation, arbitration, special master work and neutral case evaluation. Judge Mott is well known for his hard work, tenacity and creativity in resolving disputes and fashioning settlements. He is an adamant believer in the benefits of pre-mediation discussions, review and preparation for distilling the essence of each case.

Over the last three decades, as a judge, litigator and trial advocacy professor, I have most enjoyed the challenge of understanding what truly matters to the parties, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of both factual and legal positions, attempting to craft fair and reasoned decisions, and assisting the parties to properly evaluate and successfully resolve their matters. This is the goal in every case, and I look forward to continuing to serve in these roles as a neutral at JAMS.

-Hon. John M. Mott (Ret.), JAMS Mediator, Arbitrator, Special Master, and Neutral Case Evaluator

Judge Mott received his B.A. in history from Dartmouth College and earned his J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law.
